As our world becomes blended with different cultures and beliefs, our healthcare needs to be cognizant of biases beheld in the workplace. Biases are implied through an implicit or explicit nature. An implicit bias is unconscious automatic behavior with a conscious intention; whereas, an explicit bias is a consciously controlled behavior (Byrne & Tanesini, 2015). Both negatively affect healthcare and patient satisfaction. Discussion of Biases As a family nurse practitioner, the patient population will be culturally diverse. Without cultural competence and self-reflection, unconscious or conscious biases will be prevalent and produce marginalized care. Ong-Flaherty (2015)
Purpose of Addressing Bias Assignment
In today’s current healthcare settings, the increasing diversity, globalization, and expanding technologies produce complex ethical pressures that influence nursing practice and practice outcomes. To be effective in a master’s-prepared advanced nurse practice role it is important to understand personal values, beliefs, strengths, and limitations. The purpose of this assessment is to promote introspective reflection related to implicit and/or explicit personal biases. Students will develop a plan to reduce bias and promote personal and professional growth.

In this paper, the focus is on family nurse practitioners. Several forms of biasness are present in our regular environment, which has a particular impact on the practice of family nurses. Any form of biasness tends to affect the quality of services provided within the periphery of nursing practices. The bias is more pronounced element in the healthcare system that brings down the quality of services. This leads to a non-deliberate reduction in the performance of activities that are performed by the nurses on a daily basis. When there is a shift in cost of services provided by family nurse practitioners when a bias peeps into the system. The cost of activities tends to rise as the motivation of the nurses reduces and there is a reduction in the overall performance of the nurses (Klemenc‐Ketis & Kersnik, 2014).
